Summer Fun is a Short Ride from Sabal Homes

People cite the weather and abundant outdoor destinations as top reasons they love living in the Palmetto State. And what better way to take advantage of the beautiful climate than day trips and weekends spent in nature at one of South Carolina’s State Parks?

If your type A lifestyle prevents you from even pondering a day in the fresh air, then consider booking a getaway for your health. Mounting evidence from around the world indicates that “forest bathing” actually boosts immune function. And the Vitamin D we get from time in the sun builds strong bones and teeth.  (Just be sure to use sunscreen, so you don’t get too much of that good thing.)

All Sabal Homes communities are just a short drive away from numerous gorgeous, outdoor spaces. They’re close enough to explore in a day and just far enough for a rejuvenating weekend escape.

Below, we highlight some of the parks closest to neighborhoods where you can find Sabal Homes.

Sounds of the surf and a waft of sea-breeze, anyone? Huntington Beach State Park is a beach-lover’s haven. Avid fishermen won’t waste any time jumping into the finest surf fishing in the state. For those who enjoy observing animals out of the water, the park is one of the top bird-watching locations on the East Coast. Get a close-up look at loggerhead turtles as part of the park’s extensive wildlife programs and spy alligators while safely sitting lakeside.

Spend a day back in time to 1697 at Colonial Dorchester State History Site in Summerville. Once a vibrant trading town, visitors can now watch as archaeologists unearth the settlement’s history. Only a handful of original structures remain at the site, including a shell of the bell tower, but those provide glimpses of the lives that were lived along the Ashley River during the Revolutionary War.

Frolic in the foothills at Oconee State Park. The campground is in the foothills region, which serves as the Southern trailhead for an 80-mile wilderness hike on the Blue Ridge Escarpment. When a rustic getaway is in order, book one of the campground’s cabins, and spend the day fishing, swimming in the lake and participating in fun family activities like canoeing and square dancing.
