It was pretty exciting around here last week, as BOTH University of South Carolina basketball teams made it to the Final Four.
We were on the edge of our seats Saturday, as the men fought valiantly against Gonzaga. And we all “Woot Wooted” pretty loudly when coach Dawn Staley and the Lady Gamecocks won their championship game with a decisive victory, capping an amazing season.
It would be unseemly for us to brag (but it might be forgiven, since many of our team members are USC grads!), so we won’t.
But we will take this moment to talk about the many ways that collegiate and professional sports make living in South Carolina so awesome.
There’s basketball, to be sure. And it’s played beautifully in all of the regions Sabal builds homes.
And of course, there’s football. If you’re not from the South, you may not realize what a hold football has on our hearts. Come autumn, nobody around here plans a Saturday party unless they can assure all guests that THEIR favorite team will be featured on the TV. Shout out to our Clemson Tigers for their National Championship this year.
Oh, you’re a baseball fan? Well, we’ve got champions galore at Coastal Carolina and USC. And professional, minor league teams can also be found in Charleston’s Riverdogs, http://www.milb.com/index.jsp?sid=t233, with the Greenville Drive, http://www.milb.com/index.jsp?sid=t428, and the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, http://www.milb.com/index.jsp?sid=t521. Grab a bag of boiled peanuts and watch the boys of summer do their thing!
Throw in some hockey, soccer, auto racing and other fun, and our little state packs a big punch.
The fact is, South Carolina brims over with plenty of solid sporting talent. Especially this week, when everybody in the Palmetto State is a proud Gamecock… well almost everybody. Congrats, National Champions, now rest up and come back and do it all over again!
