Romance in the Holy City: Valentine’s Day Happenings around the Lowcountry

If you’ll be celebrating this special holiday with your loved one here in Charleston, there are many wonderful ways to enjoy it. Just a stroll outdoors is enough to warm the heart in our beautiful surroundings. But there are also a variety of activities taking place in the area for sweethearts, and we’ve got a round-up of some of our favorites:

Cooking Demo and Dinner at Caviar & Bananas

Head to Caviar & Bananas downtown for an Asian-inspired dinner and cooking demonstration on Valentine’s Day. They’ll transform the store into a fine dining establishment for one night and treat you to a four-course seated dinner served on china. A sushi chef will lead the demonstration, showing you how to recreate each course at home, while you sip on wine, beer and sake pairings. Call 843-577-9997 for reservations.

Art & Wine Walk

If you live on the West Ashley side of Charleston, you might enjoy this Art & Wine Walk at Freshfields Village on Johns Island. From 4-7 p.m., stroll hand in hand as you enjoy free art demonstrations in a variety of media, including watercolor, pottery, hand-blown glass, photography and more. As you meander, sample fine wines and hors d’oeuvres and listen to live strolling music.

Valentine’s Day Blues & BBQ Harbor Cruise

One of the best parts of living in the Lowcountry is the water! Hop on a boat and enjoy a special Valentine’s Day cruise from Charleston Harbor Tours, featuring blues music and BBQ. The two-hour cruise will offer a buffet from Home Team BBQ and live music from Shrimp City Slim. Visit their website to secure your spot.

Oh, and let us not forget that one of Charleston’s biggest festivals of the year gets started on Valentine’s Day, as well. The Southeastern Wildlife Exposition (SEWE) kicks off Feb. 14 and runs through the weekend with all things wildlife, including art, sporting demonstrations, food, drink and more. There are several chef cooking demonstrations throughout the day on Friday, as well as a special reception for the “Lowcountry Color” art exhibit at Reinert LePrince Fine Art at 6 p.m. See the complete event calendar.

Romance at the Wentworth Mansion

If you’d like to get away, but not too far, consider a stay at the uber-romantic Wentworth Mansion, the only 5 diamond hotel in all of downtown. This former home of a rice planter exudes charm and history at all turns. Be sure to head upstairs hand-in-hand to the cupola for a 360-degree view of the city. Enjoy dinner at the on-property restaurant Circa 1886, the mansion’s former carriage house.

We hope you and your loved one have a romantic Charleston Valentine’s Day!
