Red, White and You: How to Add Patriotic Flair to Your Home

July 4 is upon us and that’s got us thinking all things USA. But no matter the time of year, we can celebrate our country all year long with small accents that display our patriotism. Here are a few ways to add patriotic flair to your new Sabal home:

patriotic decor1) Hang Old Glory – Ok, so this is an easy one, but we’ve got some tips for making it even more special. Go ahead and get your flag pole and hang the American flag, but make it stand out all the more with decorative front porch accents. Try red flower pots, red flowers, a wreath, or a vintage item in rustic red like an old bucket, washtub or sign with your family’s name to highlight the flag.

2) Add a touch of Americana – This rustic, homey style always brings to mind America, especially of days past. Pick a select few items as decorative accents for any room in your home. Some ideas include red and white or blue and white kitchen canisters, a patriotic wall clock, vase or crocheted pillow.

3) Deck out your table in red and blue – Use linens especially for the 4th of July or Veteran’s Day. Red and white gingham is always a fun choice combined with blue and white dishes or china. Choose some fun glasses and use an old-fashioned milk bottle to hold some red flowers to finish it off!

4) Make your own American artwork – No need to go out and buy the original “American Gothic” painting; simply create a work of art yourself. Fashion old award ribbons in a decorative pattern inside a picture frame, or create your own painting using red, white and blue and frame it on the wall! Repurpose items like antique plates or shutters by hanging them on walls or doors.

5) Light ‘em up! Sure, you’ll be setting off fireworks this July 4, but there’s more you can do with light. Pick a lampshade in red, white or blue for an easy change out or create your own using ribbon. We also love outdoor holiday-style lights — but in red, white, and blue — over your porch, deck or other outdoor area.
