Planning to make some updates to your Charleston home’s décor in the New Year? Pantone, which provides professional color standards in the design industries, has some direction for you, as they recently announced their choice for 2015 Color of the Year as “Marsala.”
Named for the wine and Indian spice, Marsala is a deep and rich red-brown hue that also embodies earthiness. The Pantone Color Institute also describes it as robust, grounded and sophisticated. “Marsala is a subtly seductive shade, one that draws us in to its embracing warmth,” says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Institute.
Eiseman recommends using it in the kitchen and dining room in placemats, dinnerware and small appliances. It also adds elegance to family rooms and living rooms when used as accent pieces, accessories, paint, rugs and upholstered furniture. In bedrooms, use Marsala in your bedding, linens and throws.
You can pair Marsala well with neutrals, including warmer taupes and grays. It also complements amber, umber, golden yellows, turquoise, teal and vibrant blues.
Last year’s color was Radiant Orchid, which the Institute described as encouraging creativity and innovation, while Marsala enriches body, mind and soul, exuding confidence and stability.
