Get Your Charleston Home Spic and Span with These Homemade Cleaners

We recently came across some recipes for homemade house cleaners that we found worked perfectly for cleaning rooms throughout a home. Not only do they work well, but they’re a great cost-saving alternative to expensive off-the-shelf cleaners.

Shower Cleaner

Got shower grime? Who doesn’t, right? We’ve never found anything that cleaned the dirt and grime off of glass shower doors as well as this Shower and Tub Cleaner from BargainBriana.com.

Here’s what you need:

· 1/2 cup vinegar

· 1/2 cup Dawn detergent – blue bottle

· spray bottle

Now, warm the vinegar in the microwave for 90 seconds and then combine with the Dawn in a spray bottle. Spray on, let sit for an hour or two, scrub with a sponge and ta da! Clean shower!

Drain Cleaner

Stinky drains can ruin the smell of a home in a hurry! This recipe from About.com Frugal Living not only freshens the drain but clears it, as well.

You’ll need:

· ½ box baking soda

· Some vinegar

Pour some of the baking soda down the drain, then pour the vinegar on top until it foams. Let the foaming stop and then repeat until baking soda is gone. For the best results, let the drain sit for a while after cleaning and run hot water down it before you use it again.

If you have a stinky garbage disposal, simply take the rind of a lemon or orange and run it through the disposal. You’ll be smelling citrusy clean in no time!

All Purpose Cleaner

Use this easy mix from OrganizedHome.com for cleaning counters, floors, toilets, stove tops and more. Simply mix 1 cup white vinegar with 1 cup water in a spray bottle. For tougher surfaces, heat up the solution in the microwave for 10 seconds or so by removing the top to the spray bottle.
