Charleston is never short on accolades and now there’s yet another one to add to the list, showing the world why the Holy City is such a great place to live and visit. Readers of Travel + Leisure recently chose Charleston as the second best city in the entire world as part of the magazine’s 2014 World’s Best Awards.
Every year, Travel + Leisure readers vote on their favorite hotels, resorts, spas, airlines, cruise lines, tour operators, rental-car agencies and more in the magazine’s annual World’s Best Awards survey. The results of all categories are available now on www.travelandleisure.com and will be published in the August 2014 issue.
Charleston was second only to Kyoto, Japan. Other cities making the top 10 list, and putting Charleston in great company, include Florence, Rome, Mexico City, Istanbul and Seville. The only other U.S. city to make the list was New Orleans, landing at No. 10.
Last year, readers ranked Charleston No. 7 on the list, so our fair city has bumped up quite a number of spots. Here’s hoping next year, we top the list!
Charleston did rank No. 1 for best North American city, as it also did last year. Other cities in the North American top 10 included our neighbor, Savannah, Santa Fe, Chicago, New York City and San Francisco.
