More than ever, it’s important to celebrate what makes us uniquely American, citizens who believe in life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and who together stand united in the face of despair.
Honor your country and our freedoms this July 4th at one of several fireworks displays and patriotic events held in the Charleston area, including some at Sabal Homes’ Charleston neighborhoods. Here are a few to choose from:
Boone Hall I Heart America Festival, Mount Pleasant
Just two days before July 4 is a special concert sponsored by Sabal Homes, which will be held at the back lawn of the beautiful Boone Hall plantation in Mt Pleasant. The I Heart America Festival, held July 2, will f feature performances from country music singer Easton Corbin. He will be playing songs from his new album released June 30. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. and the concert begins at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person and concert-goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or beach blankets for the event.
Independence Day at Cane Bay Plantation
Cane Bay Plantation, one of our communities, will be hosting its own free July 4th celebration with from 7-10 p.m. Saturday sponsored by Sabal Homes and The Church at Cane Bay. There will be food trucks and other vendors, a cornhole tournament, and, of course, a fireworks display at Cane Bay High School. Brings your own lawn chairs and blankets for watching the fireworks show.
4th of July Festival, North Charleston
The City of North Charleston also boasts a large July 4th celebration each year with a great fireworks display, which it says is the Lowcountry’s largest. Beginning at 3:45 p.m. on July 4 and running through 9:45 p.m., the free 4th of July Festival features live music, jump castles, a giant sandbox, games, food trucks, beer and wine stations, and craft vendors. The event is held at the former Charleston Naval Base, which you can center on McMillan Avenue or Virginia Avenue.
Patriot’s Point 4th of July Blast, Mount Pleasant
This traditional celebration is extra patriotic since it takes place right next to the USS Yorktown at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant. While the fireworks are shot from a barge in the Cooper River, some of the best viewing is on board the Yorktown or nearby. There are also plenty of other places to watch the fireworks both on the Mount Pleasant and downtown Charleston sides of the river. The Patriot’s Point 4th of July Blast event begins at 4 p.m. with live music, activities and food and drinks available for purchase. It’s free to watch the fireworks from land at Patriot’s Point, though get there early for parking ($10/car) and a good spot.
Red, White & Blue on the Green, Summerville
Many of our wonderful communities are located in the Summerville area and this is a popular celebration to attend on July 4. The free Red, White & Blue on the Green is hosted by Summerville DREAM together with the Town of Summerville on Saturday, July 4 from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Located in Gahagan Park, 515 W. Boundary Street, you can enjoy live music, kids activities, jump castles and games, and don’t miss the popular patriotic newspaper hats. There will also be a traditional fireworks display in the evening. For ease of parking, trolleys are available from Heritage Square to the event.
No matter where you live in the Charleston area, get out and celebrate our freedoms and show some patriotism this Independence Day! Happy 4th!
