It’s hard to believe but summer is about to come to a close — at least for kids. Schools are gearing up for the return of students, and parents and kids are readying backpacks, pencils and lunch boxes.
Sabal Homes builds in Charleston communities that offer some of the area’s most outstanding schools. They are widely regarded as some of the best in Charleston, and many of them have been built in just the last few years. Here’s an overview of schools in Sabal’s many Charleston neighborhoods:
In Cane Bay, where Sabal Homes is building in two neighborhoods — Palmetto Walk and The Coves at the Lakes of Cane Bay — there are actually schools within the community. Children can walk to Cane Bay Elementary, Middle and High Schools, which are part of the Berkeley County School District and Dorchester County School District 2.
The elementary school, which opened in 2009, is the recipient of two state Palmetto Gold Awards for 2012-2013 for performance and they received a grade of A from the state of South Carolina for exceeding the state’s expectations. The middle school opened in 2012 and offers smartboard technology and the capacity for 900 students. Cane Bay High School opened in 2008 and was the only high school in Berkeley County to receive an A on the Federal Report Card. It also boasts the 2014 Berkeley County School District Principal of the Year.
Like Cane Bay, many of our neighborhoods attend Berkeley County School Systems. Students who live in Carnes Crossroads also attend Cane Bay schools, and soon the private K-12 Northwood Academy will relocate to the neighborhood.
At Foxbank Plantation in Moncks Corner, students go to Whitesville Elementary and Berkeley Middle and High Schools, also part of Berkeley County Schools. A new state of the art elementary school is scheduled to open in 2018. Other neighborhoods within the Berkeley County School District include Summer Wood and Branch Creek.
Summer’s Corner, also located in Summerville, sits within the Dorchester County 2 School District. This school system is consistently ranked “excellent” on the South Carolina Annual School District Report Card. In 2016, two new schools will open in Summer’s Corner. Sand Hill Elementary School, serving grades K-5, and the Middle School of the Arts, serving grades 6-8, will both open within the next year.
Residents within The Ponds community also fall within Dorchester County 2 District schools. Children currently attend Knightsville Elementary, Gregg Middle School and Summerville High School. Additionally, Summerville Catholic is just a half-mile from The Ponds and Pinewood Prep is just 15 minutes away.
Sabal Homes’ Mount Pleasant Community, Riverside at Carolina Park, is located within Charleston County Schools. All of the schools serving Carolina Park have earned an average rating of Excellent. Wando High School is located within Carolina Park and was built in 2004. It holds a number of significant achievements.
Students in Carolina Park can attend Laurel Hill Primary School (rated Excellent, winner of the 2011 SC Literacy Spot Award), Charles Pinckney Elementary School (rated Excellent five years running) and Cario Middle School (#6-rated middle school in South Carolina) — all in neighboring Park West. There is also an elementary school scheduled to be constructed and opened for the 2017-2018 school year.
When you build or buy a new Charleston home with Sabal Homes, you can look forward to outstanding schools whether you choose to live in Summerville, Moncks Corner, Charleston or West Ashley.
