Around Town: 5 Must-See Lowcountry April Events

Spring is in full swing this month with plenty of events for you to enjoy. From exploring outdoor festivals and attending annual races, to dancing in the moonlight and sampling local cuisine, this month is all about celebrating the great outdoors and the contagious spirit of the Lowcountry.

Congratulations to our friends at the YMCA – Summerville for hosting an extremely successful Flowertown Festival. It is one of our favorite events of the season. We’d also like to give a big shout out to all of the runners who participated in the Cooper River Bridge Run this past Saturday. It was quite the event!

Known as the largest keelboat regatta in the Western Hemisphere, this international sailboat regatta welcomes sailors from across the globe to compete in the salty waters of Charleston. Whether you’re sailing or watching, the 21st Annual Charleston Race Week is the perfect way to enjoy the popular sailing culture of the Lowcountry.

Walk for Autism – Charleston – April 16
Grab some friends and your favorite walking shoes and join others in the Walk for Autism in the historic Hampton Park. Complete with refreshments, live music, jump castles, and a silent auction, the proceeds from the event will go to support autism development programs. The fun kicks off at 9 am at the park entrance.

Shagging on the Cooper – April 23
There are few things more southern than listening to beach music on a warm summer night. Add in some shag dancing and you’ve got yourself the quintessential southern date night! Bring your favorite dance partner to the Mount Pleasant Pier and enjoy live music, refreshments, and lots of shagging at this seasonal event.

North Charleston Arts Fest – April 29
Hosted by the City of North Charleston Cultural Arts Department, this annual nine-day celebration of arts and culture brings together artists and performers from across the nation. For more than 30 years this festival has attracted more than 30,000 spectators from the Southeast and beyond.

A Lowcountry Affair – April 29
Help raise money for the American Red Cross at this annual event. Enjoy a night of food, drinks, music and dancing, live and silent auctions, and a wine tasting as our community comes together to support this wonderful organization. There are limited tickets available, so reserve your spot today!
