Community

The neighborhood is be sprinkled with picturesque ponds, century-old live oak trees, and expansive green terrains.
Homes in the community have designs reflecting the homes of Old Summerville, with front porches, Victorian and Colonial architecture, and quaint details.

A first-rate team of regional and national builders are building homes priced from the $200s and Rowhomes from the high $100s.

Amenities

The neighborhood amenity area is anchored by an award winning restored 19th-century farmhouse, now in use as a community amenities center. Residents also enjoy a salt-water pool and pavilion complex, an outdoor amphitheatre and an 11-acre multipurpose field.

Natural amenities abound, with ponds for fishing and canoeing, over ten miles of natural trails, and a 1,100-acre conservancy at the headwaters of the Ashley River.

A YMCA has been built in the community and is now thriving; offering fitness classes, children’s programs summer camps and community events.

An onsite EMS/Fire Station has been built and is now in operation.
Land has been set aside for a proposed K-8 public school.

Awards

The South Carolina chapter of the American Institute of Architects recognized the historic farmhouse and pavilion at The Ponds for architectural excellence. Charleston-area design firm Cobb Architects won a 2009 Merit Award for its plan that blended the farmhouse, an open-air pavilion and three other "outbuildings" into a cohesive central amenity area.
 
The American Society of Landscape Architects recognized DesignWorks of Charleston earlier with a 2008 merit award from for analysis and planning of the community. The ASLA Awards recognize the wide variety of professional activities that lead to, guide, or evaluate landscape architectural design. The main criteria for judging include quality of design, functionality, relationship to context, environmental responsibility, impact on environmental decision making, and overall relevance to landscape architecture, the public and the environment.

The Ponds Conservancy

The Ponds Conservancy, a not-for-profit community organization, has been created to enhance the quality of life and sense of community at The Ponds through educational programs, social events, cultural endeavors and environmental stewardship. However, the function of The Conservancy goes beyond protecting nature and the beauty of the land at The Ponds. Its overriding purpose is to become a thriving resource for community activity and spirit.
 
In its early stages, Greenwood Communities and Resorts will utilize its existing staff at The Ponds to handle Conservancy affairs and events. As the organization matures, the Conservancy may hire its own management staff, may establish an Advisory Board and may organize other committees and groups to further its goals and mission. Cultural and social programs will also be available to promote artistic and communal initiatives through featured exhibits and events. Membership to The Ponds Conservancy is entitled to all residents.
